This is an illustration intended to be sold on shirts and other merchandise on TeePublic.com. The concept is an offshoot of a classic Walt Disney World poster of the monorail coming out of the Contemporary resort. I took the idea and mashed it up with the video game Portal. If you’re not familiar with it, in the game, you have a gun that creates two portals which connect to each other. Here’s a funny visual example of how these portals work:
That said, I thought it would be a fun theme to have a monorail looping endlessly between the two portals, so I drew it!
Above are a few of the merch items you can get with my illustration printed on it.
This is the original poster my artwork was inspired from. In the book of Disney Parks poster art I have, it’s attributed to an unknown artist, though the internet seems to think that it was originally designed by Paul Hartley.
Here’s my original concept. Below are some initial sketches and then a tightened sketch that I used to create my vector drawing from.
This is my first drawing based off of the poster design.
This drawing is further refined from the first.
This is the final drawing that I scanned in to create my vector drawing from. I simplified the track by removing a pylon and adjusted the trains a little more to make the concept easier to understand.
Here is the final illustration. If you’re interested, you can buy them here!
